Kelly Summers, Accredited Genealogist®, serves as the Asia Content Strategist at FamilySearch. In this role, she explores archives, documents, and cultural heritage across Asia, contributing to the discovery and preservation of genealogical records.
Before joining FamilySearch, Kelly spent 17 years as a Family History professor at Brigham Young University.
Kelly is an accomplished researcher with expertise in Latin America, Southwestern Europe, Scandinavia, and East Asia. Her research has taken her to over 100 archives and repositories in Asia, Europe and the United States. She is an experienced researcher in Latin America (including Brazil), Southwestern Europe (Spain, Portugal, Italy, France), Scandinavia, and East Asia (China, Japan, Korea). Her research focuses on kinship in primary source records and rural community reconstruction.
She holds five premier genealogical credentials through the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (ICAPGen), demonstrating excellence in the field. Her service to the genealogical community includes roles as ICAPGen Commissioner (2006–2012), Chair of the ICAPGen Testing Committee (2010–2017), UGA First Vice Chair (2016), and UGA President (2017 to 2021).
