Biography:

Jill Nock, AG® is accredited through ICAPGen℠ for research in the United States Upper South Region. With nearly five decades of research experience beginning in 1977—inspired by the groundbreaking television miniseries "Roots"—she brings extensive knowledge and proven methodologies to complex genealogical challenges. She operates Mountain State Genealogy and subcontracts with Family Locket Genealogists, specializing in DNA analysis and oral history interviews.

Jill earned her Bachelor of Applied Science with an Accounting Emphasis from Boise State University, providing her with strong analytical and organizational skills that enhance her genealogical work. She is a ProGen59 graduate and has completed advanced training at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP), the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG), and the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR), focusing on DNA evidence, forensic genealogy, and advanced research methodologies.

Her ancestral roots span Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, giving her both personal connection to and deep familiarity with Upper South and Mid-Atlantic records. Jill is proficient in reading historical handwriting from the 1600s forward, enabling her to extract information from original documents that challenge many researchers.

Jill is an active member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), including service with the APG Writer's SIG, and holds memberships in the National Genealogical Society, the North Carolina Genealogical Society, the Georgia Genealogical Society, the Utah Genealogical Association, Twin Rivers Genealogy Society (Lewiston, Idaho), and Whitman County Genealogy Society (Pullman, Washington). She volunteers with ICAPGen℠ and serves in multiple officer and committee positions with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), as well as supporting local genealogy societies.

Jill regularly lectures on DNA methodology and interpretation, probate records research, identifying Revolutionary War Patriots, writing convincing genealogical reports, and transforming research findings into compelling family narratives. Her presentations address both beginning and advanced researchers, covering topics such as utilizing indirect evidence when direct records do not exist, resolving conflicting evidence, and developing genealogical detective skills to solve complex family mysteries.

Her expertise combines traditional record analysis with advanced DNA interpretation, utilizing both autosomal DNA (atDNA) and Y-DNA to resolve complex relationship questions. She specializes in transforming intricate research findings into clear, professionally written reports that clients can understand and use with confidence.

Jill provides research services for private clients seeking to document family histories, prove lineage for heritage society applications, resolve complex DNA questions, and preserve family stories through oral history interviews.
