Biography:

I was sixteen years old when I first became interested in finding more about my Swedish ancestors. After visiting with my relatives in Sweden a few years later, and learning how to use the excellent Swedish records, I was able to begin research on my grandmother’s ancestry in Karlskoga, Örebro, Sweden. I researched her lines in the parish records to late 1600s and then used tax and court records to search about one hundred years further back. This became the basis for my dissertation, Land, Family, and Inheritance Patterns in a Seventeenth-Century Swedish Community, that I completed prior to receiving a PhD in history from Brigham Young University in 1985. Much later I created a website to further publish my research, as I believed it would be helpful for anyone with ancestors in Karlskoga in the 1600s. Since completing that project, I have done extensive research on my grandfather’s ancestry in the Dalarna area of Sweden. As an accredited ICAP Gen researcher since 2006 and a volunteer at the 7-stake Family History Center in Burley, Idaho, I have also helped people find their ancestors in almost all other areas in Sweden. Kathleen Hedberg is accredited for research for Sweden.
