Jeane Erickson Burton, MEd, AG®

Jeane Erickson Burton is an accredited genealogist who specializes in Swedish research. She currently volunteers as a research specialist at the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, and teaches Family History courses as an adjunct faculty member at BYU Idaho. For the past several years, Jeane has studied weekly with a Linguistic professor at Uppsala University to increase her Swedish language and her historical Swedish translation skills. Besides Scandinavian research, she is also interested in UK family history research and in her deeply rooted Utah heritage.

An experienced educator, Jeane holds a graduate degree in Teaching and Learning from Brigham Young University. She has taught students from elementary school through college and maintains a K–8 teaching certificate with a focus on history. At BYU, she completed her family history course work, which included Nordic, Germanic and English paleography. She served as a teaching assistant in the BYU Scandinavian Documents and Paleography class.

Jeane is active in research, education, and outreach within the genealogy field. She directed a FamilySearch center for young adults, mentored others preparing for accreditation, and presented at conferences like RootsTech, SLIG, and the BYU Family History Conference. She enjoys translating Swedish historical documents and old family letters.
