Charlotte Champenois | Civil Marriages in Denmark

March 24 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Researching Danish church records for documentation of births, marriages and deaths is one of the first skills a genealogist researching their Danish ancestors learns. But what if your ancestors didn’t get married in a church? Or you haven’t been able to locate a church marriage record? Beginning in 1851, Denmark allowed civil marriages, which were recorded by a local sheriff or magistrate.

This program, Civil Marriages in Denmark, will teach us where to locate historical civil marriage records, what information might be included on them, why they may have been chosen over a church wedding, and more.
