ICAPGen is pleased to announce that the following tests will soon be offered to complete the United States Regions:

* Great Plains Region (available Winter 2008 will include Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Texas)

* Mountain West Region (available before Spring 2008 includes Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming)

Click to see other U.S. Regions.

This advanced notification provides the applicant time to prepare a four-generation project in their selected region.

In 2007 ICAPGen achieved its five-year goals to standardize its testing processes to meet the demands of a growing industry. As a result, the areas of African American, General Genealogy Reference, Records of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Native American Research were incorporated into current regional examinations such as: Mid-South African American, Gulf-South Native American, Mountain West LDS, and Midwestern Librarian. Please see previous announcements below.

New Announcements at FGS (Aug 2007)

Announced at the Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) National Conference in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, on 17 August 2007, Karen A. Clifford, 1st Vice-Chair, introduced another new testing area, and the expansion of testing sites.

Curt B. Witcher, Manager of the Historical Genealogy Department at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and guest speaker for the ICAPGen luncheon at the FGS conference, enthusiastically welcomed the expansion of testing sites to include the Genealogy Department at the Allen County Public Library.

Recognizing the ever-expanding availability of genealogical resources, and training needed by reference librarians a new examination is under construction to be available in the winter of 2007. An applicant for the Librarian credential would select a U.S. region from the ICAPGen list. Click to see U.S. Regions.

New Announcements at NGS (May 2007)

At the National Genealogical Society Conference (NGS) in the States held in Richmond, Virginia, on 19 May 2007, Carolyn J. Nell, ICAPGen Chair, announced four new testing areas, and the expansion of testing sites outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.

* Gulf-South African American
* Gulf-South American Indian
* Mid-South African American
* Mid-South American Indian

These new examinations were prepared to recognize and encourage proficiency in the areas of American Indians and African-Americans research.

Eric G. Grundset, Director of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) Library in Washington, D.C., was the guest speaker at the ICAPGen luncheon. In a meeting with ICAPGen representatives, he welcomed the commission to use the facilities of the NSDAR Library as an expanded test site.

With the announcement of additional sites to take the tests, applicants may find it easier to be tested in a facility closer and more familiar to them.
